Lobby Screen

3 major panels are on the Lobby Screen:

Join a Tournament / Get on a waiting list for a tournament

An hour before the next scheduled software tournament, you will see one or more tournaments listed by name in the top panel. Highlight the one you wish to play in.

In order to get into the tournament you highlighted, click on the far left button at the bottom of the screen called 'Join Event'.

A new small screen will pop up with a message confirming your entry into the tournament. Click 'OK'. You will then be placed on the waiting list for the tournament event until the schedule start time. You will be able to see your name on the waiting list in the side panel.

Until the tournament starts, you can leave the lobby screen open, close it, or minimize it.

If you close the Lobby Screen, you'll need to double click the Ace of Spades icon again and get to the Lobby Screen before the start of the tournament.

If you've left the program open and running (or minimized it), at the scheduled start time of the tournament, the program will automatically open a new screen, called the 'table screen', and seat you at the table. Since a tournament consists of multiple tables, you will be assigned a seat at one of the tables, whose table number is noted in the upper left corner of the screen. To read about what you see on the table screen when the tournament starts, click here.

Table Panel

Within the Table Panel, you'll see seats around the poker table with usernames and chip counts at each seat location. (Most software tournaments start with $10,000 in chips). If you're playing, your username will be at a particular seat, with your chip count.

Results & Chat Panel

The first thing you'll want to do is to select which functions you want to appear in the Results and Chat Panel. Click on the drop-down arrow on the top far right of the Results and Chat Panel. Five choices will appear:

  1. Quiet- nothing will appear in the Results and Chat Panel if you select this option.

  2. Chat- you will see only chat between players and observers at your table.

  3. Results & Chat- in addition to chat (as described above), you'll see the results of every hand at the end of each hand played at your table.

  4. Play & Chat- in addition to chat (as described above), you'll see a description of the play by play actions taken during the play of the hand leading up to and including the results.

  5. Everything- Not only do you see Play & Chat (as described above), but also you see starting chips at the beginning of every hand.

To Chat

To chat with other players or observers at your table, find the small box beside the word 'Type' at the bottom of the Results and Chat Panel and place your cursor within that box and click. [A shortcut to getting your cursor in position for typing chat messages is to simultaneously press the 'Alt' and 'Y' keys on your keyboard-notice on the word 'Type' that the 'y' is underscored. This tells you to use the 'y' key with the 'Alt' key as a shortcut].

You can now begin typing your message. No one sees your message at this point. When you've finished typing press 'Enter' on your keyboard to post the message so players and observers at your table can see your message and respond. It's in your best interest to keep your messages short, to keep the flow of the conversation(s) going.

To see the latest posted messages, make sure that the scroll bar on the far right of the Results and Chat Panel is dragged down to the bottom of the panel.

Function Buttons for Playing The Tournament

Below the graphic of the table there are a number of function buttons. You use these buttons to select your actions during the play of a hand, as follows:

At Time of Play Buttons

  • Bet Pot/ Raise Pot If you are first to act and you wish to bet the pot, this button will bet the full amount shown in the pot at that time. If any one has made a bet before it's your turn to act, then this button will change to 'Raise Pot' and will call the prior player's bet and then raise the entire amount in the pot, including your call.

  • Bet All In / Raise All In If you are first to act and you wish to bet all in, this button will bet the full amount of your bankroll. If any one has made a bet before it's your turn to act, then this button will change to 'Raise All In' and will call the previous bet and raise the rest of your bankroll.

  • Bet $Amount / Raise $Amount When it's your turn to play, if you are first to act, this button will say 'Bet $Amount' where $Amount will be equal to the big blind. You can increase the amount of your bet by either dragging the Slide Bar or typing in the exact amount into the 'Amount' box and then clicking the 'Bet' button.

If there has been action before you, then the Bet button will say 'Raise $Amount' where $Amount equals the amount that has been bet. You'll also notice that the 'Check' button now says 'Call'. You can either raise by the default amount (or increase it using the slide bar or directly typing in the amount in the 'Amount' box), or you can click the 'Call' button.

  • Check / Call $Amount If there's been no action before you or you are first to act and you want to check, click on this button. If there has been action before you, then the Bet button will say 'Call $Amount' where $Amount equals the amount that has been previously bet.

  • Fold At any time when it's your turn to act, you can fold by clicking this button. The only time you should not use this button is if you are first to act, in which case you should check.

  • Time When it's your turn to act, a timer will start and you'll have 20 seconds to act. If you want extra time to make your decision, click the 'Time' button and you'll be given another 20 seconds before you time out.

  • Timing Out When you have timed out , a new small screen will appear warning you that you have timed out. You can return to the game by clicking 'return to the game' button.

  • Slide Bar You have 2 ways to place a bet. You can use the slide bar to place your bet by dragging the bar to the right or left. This changes the amount of your bet from a low of '0' to a high of your entire bankroll. You can watch the amount changing in the 'Amount' box. When you've reached the amount you want to bet, you need to click on the 'Bet' button. Alternately you can place a bet by typing the exact amount you wish to bet directly into the 'Amount' box, and again clicking on the 'Bet' button.

  • Amount Box This sits above the slider bar. Type the exact amount you wish to bet or raise in the 'Amount' box, and then click the 'Bet' or 'Raise' button. Also, see Slide Bar above for an alternate way to place a bet.

Forward Action Buttons: Make the Game go Faster

  • Fold - If you know you are going to fold, you can check this box ahead of time, and it will fold the current hand only when it is your turn to act.

  • Check/Fold - You can use this button if you are going to check if there is no action before it's your turn to act, or you are going to fold if there is action before you.

  • Call Any - If you know you are going to call no matter what anyone else bets, you can check this box ahead of time. Be careful using this in no limit games!

  • Check/Call $X - This will be modified during each hand to reflect what the current action is to you. If you check this box and the action changes then it will be automatically unchecked. For example if you check the box when it says "Call $10" and another player raises then it will be unchecked before changing to "Call $20".

  • Raise $X - This will allow you to indicate that you would like to raise the minimum amount possible. If another player bets before your turn (whether this changes the minimum raise amount or not), this box will be unchecked.

  • Raise Any - In fixed limit games only, this indicates that you would like to raise regardless of what action any other players may make.

  • Raise Pot - In pot limit and no limit games only, this indicates that you would like to raise the current pot amount. If another player bets before your turn, this box will be unchecked.

  • Raise All-In - Similar to the above, but for no limit games only will put you all-in.

  • Muck Losing Hands - If you check this box, it will remain checked for the whole game or until you uncheck it, and your losing hands at show-down will not be shown to the other players.

  • Show Winning Hands - Similar to Muck Losing Hands, this will remain checked for the whole game and will result in all winning hands being shown whether it is required or not.

  • Post and Fold This button is for the times when you want to step away from the computer. When checked, it will automatically post your blinds and fold your hand when it's your turn to act.
